A WORD FROM THE C E O, Great news We have again been accepted as a charity partner of Movies by. Burswood the proceeds of which last season paid for 3 months of our production. Rotarian Neil Darch is again organising the volunteer roster and I trust that we will. have the enthusiastic support as last season with 3 venues this year The value. cards will be available shortly and these cards apart from being worth almost double their cost make great. presents Remember every cent of the cost goes directly to us The sale of 2 cards will provide a child with a. wheelchair, We have been concerned for some time about the security of tenure of our rented workshop units We have. an excellent friendly relationship with the owners but should for some reason they may sell or redevelop we. could lose our home Our Rotary Club is therefore making initial investigations into the possibility of. acquiring a permanent and custom built home We are now a member of the WA Men s Shed Association. and due to this could possibly attract government and lotteries help The present government help with the. rent the total of which is approaching 75 000 per year has only been verbally promised for the next 2. years providing we seek other sources Should anything come of this it will be some years down the track. We are a band of old codgers but we do get help from younger people at times such as the loading and. unloading of containers by high school students and the enthusiastic fund raising by schools and other young. people Already featured in this issue I would like to again mention one young lady in particular Nicole. Cutler is a young busy mother of two who has for some years been using her talents to approach. government departments and others to obtain grants Among many others the department of Community. Services paying for the Christmas wind up functions the mentioned. IGA paying for our morning teas and Nicole is now working on the. problems of obtaining our rent from the WA government. You may have heard of the Postie Bike Challenge an Australia wide. event that has now come to WA Posties ride long distances on their. pip squeak bikes and then donate them to a Rotary Club at their destination The Rotary Club of Broome has. been the recipient of the bikes from a 3 000 km trek Perth to Broome and has donated 3 300 from the bike. sale to Wheelchairs for Kids Thank you both to the posties and the Broome Rotary Club. We never stand still particularly in possible improvements to our innovative wheelchair Outside. suggestions are welcomed by our technical progress group So when Phil Maxwell a member of the. Nunawading Rotary Club contacted us some time ago he was invited to our workshop Phil recently made a. special visit to WA and along with John Petschell a plastics design engineer attended a meeting of our. technical progress group They are principals of a plastic moulding company supplying parts to General. Motors Holden They have generously offered to look at the possibility of designing and supplying free. various parts of our wheelchair starting off with the heavy steel sub frame Already some of their employees. have volunteered to work on Saturdays to mould the parts Bob Parry has taken on the important task of. liaising with them on behalf of our Technical Progress group. This one s for Sopar The, Thank you ever so much for the wheel chair for Sopar NB this is the. Cambodian boy who was beaten by his parents and left under their. house for 2 1 2 years in a squat position He is now largely fixed in. this position, We delivered it to him yesterday and it was amazing I think be. cause he was kept under the house for so long 2 1 2 years when. people shower him with attention and gifts such as the wheel chair. it really touches him, You can see in the photos his old wheel chair which was way too. small for him which meant that his thighs were bent up too far at his. hips Now his legs sit perfectly on the cushion which will aid the. exercises and stretches that we have given him,So please thank your whole team ever so much.
We also thought the teddy bear and blanket were a lovely touch.
