The SBPSHOF instituted the Special Recognition honor in 2008 Elphage Caillouette gradu. ated from Chalmette High in 1974 as a four sport letter winner in football basketball baseball. and track and field He received a football scholarship from Tulane University and started as. running back on the freshman team Elphage was scheduled to start as running back as a. sophomore in the fall of 1975 A tragic tubing accident took Caillouette s life on July 11 1976. The local chapter of the Tulane Athletic Booster Club was renamed in his honor as is Chalmette. High s most outstanding senior male athlete each year with the Elphage Caillouette Award. Kurt Rodriguez becomes the third recipient of the Elphage Caillouette Special Recognition. Award His crowning achievement in his stellar football career may have only recently been. recognized In a vote by former players at Northwestern State University Kurt was named to. NSU s All Century Team the top 100 players in school history He was not only a star on the. gridiron but also in the classroom Kurt was offered both athletic and academic scholarships to. several universities before signing with Northwestern State University in Natchitoches LA On.
